Now on! – Debut: Sabine Törper
"Aus den Schubladen ans Licht - vom Spiel mit Farben bis zur Gestaltung"
Lübeck-based artist Sabine Törper is presenting her works to the public for the first time. Under the title “From the drawers into the light – from playing with colours to design”, the inlingua Language Centre in Lübeck is showcasing a diverse selection of her artistic work.
The exhibition centres on works created using the wet-on-wet technique in watercolour. The display is complemented, amongst other things, by clay figures and drawings, which illustrate the wide range of her creative expressions. The exhibition also marks a special occasion: it is the debut exhibition of the artist, who was born in Stettin in 1942. In the summer of 1945, her family fled to northern Germany. From an early age, Sabine Törper felt the urge to express herself artistically. As a child – for want of paper and pencils – she scratched her first drawings into the hard-packed earth of the entrance area outside her family’s accommodation. Her enthusiasm for art continued throughout her school years. She flourished in art lessons and dreamt of becoming a fashion illustrator. However, this wish remained unfulfilled – as did her hope of studying art – as her path in life was socially predetermined at the time. Instead, she completed an apprenticeship as a technical draughtswoman. From 1977 onwards, she found a new connection to art through the Lübeck Waldorf School, which her two daughters attended. During parents’ evenings, she gained an insight into colour theory and various watercolour techniques, particularly the wet-on-wet technique. This approach – without preliminary sketches and focusing on the three primary colours of red, yellow and blue – continues to shape her artistic work to this day. In the years that followed, Sabine Törper deepened her knowledge through numerous painting courses and painting trips, including courses in life drawing and modelling. In this way, she gradually developed her own form of artistic expression. After many years of creative work, she is now, figuratively speaking, ‘opening the drawers of her studio’ and making her works accessible to the public for the first time.
Sabine Törper’s exhibition will be on display at the inlingua Language Centre in Lübeck from 13 April to 13 November 2026.
To mark the end of the exhibition, visitors are warmly invited to the closing event on 13 November 2026. The event offers an opportunity to chat with the artist and experience her works once again in a special atmosphere. Further information will be announced here in due course.
